Kind of an unusual question. It is a clear coat. Use it to change flat paint to glossy. Thin flats to make a semi gloss. Lay over flat to prevent decals from silvering. Lay over decals to protect them. Add other tints to get a transparent color for "candy" paints. Hope this helps.

Hello again 007,

X22 is a very useful paint in my experience. As pete has already said it can be thinned [I Use 50/50 X22 and Tamiya Thinner] to act as a really hard wearing and effective gloss coat. This is useful for applying to areas where you intend to place decals. One warning though, try out various percentages of clear to thinners, so as to check the capability of your airbrush and compressor, with regard to getting the best coat possible, The reason I say this is that if it is applied too thickly, it can make the decal stand proud of the surface, which even with flat coating afterwards, can make it a little visible. It is excellent at stopping the silvering of decals though.

I find it excellent though in adding varying amounts to Tamiya Flat paints [XF series], when you desire to create a satin sheen to paint finishes. Particularly good for aircraft.

You can apply it slightly thinned by brush over Tamiya clear effect paints, such as on stop lights, navigation lights, if you want to make them stand out.

If you use pigments, if you paint it onto areas, where you want to build up a layer of dirt/mud and then stipple the pigments into the still wet X22, until it will accept no more and leave it shiny for wet material, or airbrush flat varnish over the top, for dry dirt build up. It also acts as a fixing agent, when used with these materials.

Tint it with other appropriate colours and use for petrol/oil/grease runs or stains.

You wll need to test the percentages as if you get it wrong it will leave the white streaky effects I mentioned in a previous post, but when a percentage of Flat Base is added [25% is a starting point], it can be used as a Flat varnish.

I hope these suggestions give you some ideas to play with as your skills improve.

Regards,

John
