Hey folks, noob here, working on my first proper model, the Ducati 900SS. I've done some kitbashing before using model planes and random things to make spaceships, and bought a Yamaha YZR-M1 '04 kit to add to my parts bins. I was totally floored by the detail. Alas, I bought it because I needed to bash a jetbike together for reference for a painting, so I only built the engine and chassis, and then put a bunch of other stuff on it.

But the amazing detail in the kit made me want to do a bike by the actual directions, so I got the Ducati kit (I love the look of 80s bikes). I'm going to use it for reference for another painting though, and wanted to put the two-seater saddle (not sure what it would be called) instead of the racing saddle. Is this possible? Do they make alternate parts like that?

Here's the painting for which I used the jetbike I made from the Yamaha engine and chassis pieces: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_pM1ifV7g5qs/TCO83OJblyI/AAAAAAAAA1k/365AdcilNnk/s1600/getaway.jpg

Here are the spaceships the Yamaha body cladding ended up on: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pM1ifV7g5qs/S-2zkDYbptI/AAAAAAAAA0U/2lLvIhCgS9o/s1600/kitbash_sm.jpg

(Sorry if kitbashing is like sacrilege to you guys, I'm new to modeling so I don't know the culture...)

Here are pics of the Ducati in progress:

I just ordered a Honda CBR400F to do next. I love the blocky 80s looking bikes, esp. since they don't cover up the engine as much as racing bikes do.

Hi, I personally think it is "inventive" and I think it is cool.
So far I recognise the YZR-M1 front brake disk as the nose cone of your space ship and the YZR-M1's CAM cover as the gun on the other one :)
The older bikes are good but personally I feel that they were not really to scale as the newer Tamiya kits are (better manufacturing process).
I love the GP bike range to bits.

Try scratch building a saddle for youself, I think you are more than capable
